Inclusion
Step By Step believes that every child has the right to be a part of the mainstream, to be a contributing member of the community. At Step By Step, inclusion is a value that is demonstrated through carefully preplanned inclusive learning experiences among parents, children, and the community that foster not only societal acceptance and stigma reduction but also promote learning of important social and academic skills. Step By Step uses developmental screens, assessments, parent questionnaires as well as in class observations to assure knowledge of each child’s development level and to deliver individualized programs to develop each child to his/her full potential. Teacher-child ratios are used to ensure that each child’s needs are met. Children who are “differently abled” are not excluded or segregated in special rooms or buildings.
Over generations of time, elders have spoken of the traditions and values of a society which respects and dignifies each of its members equally, a basic philosophy of inclusion. That is who we are. Today, we must work together to find ways to return to our true teachings.
